Pacific Fleet Will Receive Two Submarines in 2020

The Russian Navy will receive two Project 636.3 submarines before the end of 2020.

In a statement released on Monday and cited by Tass News Agency, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that it will receive two more Project 636.3 submarines in the coming years.

“Two project 636.6 Varshavyanka-class diesel-electric submarines named Petropavlovsk-Kanchatsky and Volkhov will be added to the Russian navy by the end of 2020, provided that their in-plant and state tests go well,” the Ministry of Defense’s statement says.

These two submarines have already been laid down in St. Petersburg. Once completed, they will join the Pacific Fleet, becoming the first in service with that fleet.

Russia already has six submarines of the class in service with its Black Sea Fleet. The latest submarine for the Black Sea Fleet was Kolpino, commissioned in November last year.
