Kazakhstan has inked an agreement with Russia for the supply of 12 Su-30SM fighter jets.
Russian presidential aide for military-technical cooperation, Vladimir Kozhin, told Tass News Agency that an agreement had been signed with Kazakhstan for the sale of a dozen Su-30SM jets.
Responding to a question about the deal, Kozhin said, “Yes, this framework contract has indeed been signed at the Army-2017 International Military Technical Forum. The terms of the contract stipulate its gradual implementation within three years since the first delivery.”
The contract will be carried out under a 2013 treaty on military-technical cooperation between the two countries. Russia’s Irkut Corporation interacts with Kazakh state-owned entity Kazspetsexport.
Kazakhstan currently possesses six Su-30SMs. Two were delivered in December 2016.
It is believed that Astana ultimately aims to acquire 24 Su-30SMs for its Air Force.
