A snapshot of recent news from sources around the world on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Poland has agreed to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine as part of a coalition.  This  is the first of what could be many announcements by nations that they are willing to provide heavy armor to aid the country in the ongoing war.

Germany has agreed to send Marder infantry fighting vehicles and a Patriot system to Ukraine.  Germany will deliver up to 40 Marder IFVs and the associated ammunition from Bundeswehr stocks.

One hundred Ukrainian soldiers are heading to the United States to be trained on the Patriot missile defense system. Training will take place at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The typical two-year Patriot training program will be expedited, but officials did not outline an exact timeline.

NATO and the European Union are looking to “strengthen” their cooperation on a variety of security issues in the wake of the Ukraine war.

Russia has tapped a new general to continue its campaign in Ukraine.  Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Gen. Valery Gerasimov has been appointed to command the “special military operation” in Ukraine.

Russia continues an offensive in the eastern salt-mining town of Soledar in what Ukraine has described as an unrelenting assault.

L3Harris was awarded a $40 million Department of Defense contract to deliver 14 Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment (VAMPIRE) weapon systems to Ukraine. VAMPIRE is a counter-drone system that can be installed on the back of a pickup truck.

Ukrainian troops are training and preparing in the north in the event of a possible future assault from Russian forces out of Belarus.

Since the start of its invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Army has lost around 1,450 Russian tanks.  Of these vehicles, 900 were damaged or destroyed.   The major cause of these losses is the FGM-148 Javelin, and Ukraine is requesting more of them.

The U.S. and Italy are involved in talks concerning the promised transfer of the SAMP-T system to Ukraine.  Italy promised a few weeks ago to deliver this missile system to Ukraine.  The SAMP-T system is capable of engaging manned aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles and has a limited capability against ballistic missiles.

Canada has announced plans to purchase the U.S.-made NASAMS and deliver the missiles to Ukraine.
