Forecast International is projecting that the U.S. Air Force will spend approximately $304 million on its Information Management and Computational Technology project over the next 10 years. The project’s ultimate goal is information superiority, achieved through the development of technologies that “discover, access, and share information.” To this end, the project develops, for example, “on-demand” computing technology for application by the USAF.
Project work is performed via several subprojects. The focus of current activity is the Cross Domain Technologies subproject, which is developing techniques to allow the rapid provision of cross security domain IT systems.
The importance of information management and sharing will only grow in the current net-centric environment. The technology developed under the Information Management and Computational Technology project will enable the Air Force to manage large data storage warehouses within agile enterprise environments, to detect malicious code, and more, all in fulfillment of its information management requirements.
