Brazilian companies Savis and Bradar announced the signing of a cooperation agreement to evaluate joint business development for defense applications at the LAAD Defense & Security 2017 conference. Both companies are affiliated with Embraer Defense & Security and U.S.-based flight deck specialist Rockwell Collins.
As its name suggests, Bradar specializes in radar, while Savis specializes in sensor and suite integration capabilities. Together, they hope to make inroads into the international defense market, where they have so far found difficulty making sales.
Rockwell Collins, a name recognized and respected worldwide, will lend additional weight to the Brazilian companies’ designs. The U.S. company most likely views the initiative as an opportunity to better penetrate the defense market in general, especially the Latin American market. It will seek to enhance and market the existing capacities in the Brazilian companies’ product lines, while integrating them with its own.
In March 2016, Embraer announced the consolidation of Savis’ and Bradar’s operations, joining the systems integrator and radar specialist in a unified trajectory. With Rockwell Collins – which has made a name for itself as an OEM specified flight deck option, but has lagged in the defense market – now in the mix, the prospect for developing market-relevant defense-oriented sensor suites is ripe.
