Russia will show off some of the latest surface-to-air missiles under development at the Army 2017 military exhibition, which runs this week, from August 22 to August 27.
The Russian Defense Ministry told Izvestia that, at a closed location, the S-500 and the Antey-4000 will be demonstrated. Izvestia noted that specifications for the S-500, in particular, have not been made publicly available.
The S-500 is designed to intercept ballistic missiles, hypersonic cruise missiles, and aircraft. Some reports suggest that the system will have a range up to 600 km.
Russia is currently testing the S-500 and manufacturer Almaz-Antey has suggested that testing will be completed in 2020.
Antey-4000 is an export version of the S-300V4, which is currently in service with the Russian military. Last year, Russia deployed the S-300V4 to Syria, as part of its military campaign in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Especially with the Antey-4000, Russia is hoping to demonstrate its surface-to-air missile systems to potential foreign customers.
Another system on display at Army 2017 is the Buk M3, deliveries of which began to the Russian military last year.
