Earlier this week, Iraq announced that it had received 39 T-90 main battle tanks from Russia.
The tanks are divided among two battalions.
Earlier this year, Iraq took delivery of 36 T-90 main battle tanks under a contract announced last year. The Ministry of Defense was due to receive the second batch for the contract — expected to be 37 tanks — in the first half of 2018 as well. Iraq purchased a total of 73 T-90s.
The Ministry of Defense’s statement may indicate that the second batch arrived and that, of the total 73 tanks, 39 have officially entered service.
