The Danish Army has finalized an order for 115 CV90 MkIIIC combat vehicles from BAE Systems Hägglunds in a deal valued at DKK9.975 billion ($1.5 billion). The deal was publicly listed on the European Union’s official procurement portal, Tenders Electronic Daily (TED).
The CV9035 MkIIIC variant, identical to the model recently ordered by Sweden to replace vehicles donated to Ukraine, is slated for delivery between 2026 and 2029. Local Danish contractors will partner with BAE Systems’ Swedish facility in Hägglunds to execute this project.
Denmark’s relationship with the CV90 combat vehicle dates back to 2005, when the country first ordered these vehicles. Since then, the Danish Army has deployed CV90s in Afghanistan, demonstrating their operational capabilities in real-world combat conditions.
In March 2024, BAE Systems entered into a 15-year framework agreement with the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO), valued at approximately $400 million. This agreement covers the repair and maintenance of Denmark’s existing CV90 fleet, ensuring their continued readiness and effectiveness.
In addition, DALO signed a second contract for the Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) of the Danish CV90 fleet. The contract will see the Danish CV90 infantry fighting vehicles integrated with the new D-series turret, which provides significant improvements in vehicle balance and new ways to introduce a variety of weaponry for increased lethality. The upgrades include equipping the Danish CV90s with rubber tracks that both decrease the vehicle’s weight, freeing up payload for the addition of new systems, and reduce noise and vibrations, to minimize long-term bio-mechanical impact on crew and reduce crew fatigue. The upgraded vehicles will have an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) and Defence Aid Suite (DAS) sensor system. The delivery of the program is planned between 2026 and 2029 and will be executed in close cooperation with Danish industry and partners.
