Germany has signed a new contract with Airbus for the delivery of 20 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, further reinforcing its long-term commitment to the platform. The aircraft will be assembled at Airbus’s final assembly line in Manching, near Munich, with deliveries scheduled between 2031 and 2034.
The new aircraft will be equipped with advanced capabilities, including the latest E-Scan electronically scanned radar. In addition, Airbus plans to integrate Saab’s Arexis electronic warfare suite into both the new and existing Eurofighter fleet, enhancing the aircraft’s operational versatility and survivability in complex environments.
The Eurofighter program continues to play a significant role in the European defence industrial base. Airbus reports that the program supports more than 100,000 jobs across Europe, including approximately 25,000 in Germany. Around 120 German suppliers are currently involved in the production and sustainment of the aircraft.
With this latest procurement, a total of over 740 Eurofighters have been ordered by nine countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar. The aircraft is expected to remain in service with the Luftwaffe into the 2060s, operating alongside both crewed and uncrewed systems as part of a broader networked defence architecture.
