Qatar Option for Rafales Comes Into Effect

A Qatari order for more Dassault Rafale fighter jets has come into effect.

In a statement on March 27, 2018, Dassault Aviation announced that a Qatari order for a dozen new Rafales has come into effect.

The firm said, “This option was exercised on 7 December 2017 at Doha in the presence of the President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, and his Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.”

Dassault’s statement noted, “It followed the contract signed on 4 May 2015 between the State of Qatar and Dassault Aviation for the acquisition of 24 Rafale aircraft.”

Qatar will have 36 Dassault Rafales once the two contracts have been completed.
