The U.S. Army is planning to spend more than $390 million over the next decade on its C3 Technology program. This focus of this program is on improving the Army’s ability to transport information to the battlefield. Specifically, this R&D program explores communications technologies, command and control technologies, electronics components and sub-components, and software that can provide the Army with enhanced capabilities for secure, mobile, networked communications, and assured information delivery.
Among current activities, this program is designing and maturing a smart switching system for distributed antenna arrays, enabling higher output power, interoperability, and improved link connectivity for satellite communications.
In the future, the program will investigate a virtual capability to supply staff-like functionality to the commander. In another effort, it will demonstrate, in a lab, antennas and antenna arrays that provide improved communications and reliability through EW-jammed environments.
