The MILES simulator, which uses lasers to replicate battlefield scenarios, continues to enjoy demand from the Pentagon and on the international market. Forecast International is projecting steady sales of the MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) in multiple variants, in particular the MILES 2000, the Individual Weapon System (IWS), and the Instrumented-Tactical Engagement Simulation System, Increment II (I-TESS II).
In the U.S., MILES simulators are being acquired by the Department of Defense under a large Army program that procures devices for use in training soldiers in military tactics. Among recent MILES activity, in August 2014 Cubic Defense was chosen to supply the Army Mobile Instrumented Training System variant for the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation. If fully funded, the initial award has a potential value in excess of $200 million. Work under this contract will proceed through 2019.
Earlier, in December 2013, Cubic was awarded a $70 million contract from a customer in the Asia-Pacific region for significant quantities of combat training center equipment, likely including MILES. Deliveries started in 2014 and will continue through 2016.
