L-3 WESCAM announced at the Paris Air Show that variants of the company’s MX-Series had been selected by Airbus Helicopters as the targeting systems for its Generic Weapon Systems program. The systems will be key components of Airbus H225M and H145M helicopters, enabling these aircraft to engage in anti-submarine warfare, tactical troop transport, search-and-rescue, and medevac missions, as well as being employed for special operations.
Among the WESCAM family of high-definition surveillance and reconnaissance sensors, the MX-15 is currently enjoying steady demand, driven by the worldwide need of military, security, and search-and-rescue organizations for airborne surveillance systems.
In the United States, the system is in wide use by the Army and Air Force. Under the Army’s Family of Persistent Surveillance Capabilities program, $32 million is set aside for system procurement in FY15, and $16.5 million in FY16.
Outside the U.S., in September 2013, L-3 WESCAM received a contract from the Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization to provide at least eight MX-15 systems for Royal Danish Air Force EH101 aircraft.
